About Jack Young

Having spent his career in education, Jack Young is committed to providing Upland students with a world-class 21st-century learning environment, and ensuring they have the tools they need to live good lives in a good society.

Mr. Young was elected to the UUSD Board of Education in 2016, nearly three decades after moving to the Inland Empire to continue a teaching career he had started in Del Rio, Texas. The Michigan native attended the University of Michigan-Flint and earned his master’s degree from Baylor University. He came to California in 1989, working in the Ontario-Montclair School District as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and district office administrator, and earning his administrative credential from the University of California-Riverside.

Mr. Young currently works at the University of La Verne, supervising student teachers. He also is a member of the Baldy View Regional Occupational Program (ROP) Commission.

His experience, desire to build a strong relationship between teachers, administrators, the board, and commitment to providing students the best education possible inspired him to run for office.

In addition to his work with schools, Mr. Young is a volunteer and board member at Foothill Family Shelter. He is a long-time HAM radio operator, former volunteer fireman, and a volunteer for Helping Out Pets Everyday (H.O.P.E.). In his spare time, he likes to read, exercise, listen to music, and perform with Music Masters, a swing band in Upland.

Mr. Young met his wife, Robyn, while traveling in Germany. The couple have one daughter, Heather, who attended Upland schools and graduated from Upland High School.
