A message from our Superintendent, Lynn Carmen Day

Dear UUSD Community,

It is a privilege and honor to serve the students, families, and community of Upland as your new Superintendent, and I look forward to getting to know you in the weeks and months ahead. I have served students for more than 25 years in many roles as a coach, teacher, counselor, principal, assistant superintendent, and chief academic officer and believe that the education of our children is a community’s most important responsibility.

What’s immediately obvious to me is just how seriously this community takes that responsibility. From our parents to our business and stakeholder partners to our faculty and staff, Upland Unified is a shining example of how a collective effort toward a common purpose cultivates our kids’ futures.

That’s never been as important as it is today, with the multitude of challenges we’ve confronted these past several months. But the extraordinary strength and resiliency of our district community have provided us both hope and a pathway forward as we prepare our students for the prosperous, successful futures they deserve. That’s our number one job as a district, I believe, not just to educate our students, but to prepare them for the journey ahead.

For us, too, the journey is an exciting one, as we build on the successes the Upland Unified School District has achieved throughout the years, particularly in the areas of equity and inclusion, college readiness, STEM education, career pathways, and student health and safety. UUSD’s commitment to every single student every single day permeates every one of our classrooms in every one of our campuses, inspiring our team of faculty, staff, and administrators to do the best work we possibly can. None of this would be possible, either, without the strength and dedication of our board of education, our parents, and families, and, of course, our remarkable students themselves.

Even as COVID-19 continues to impact the precise manner in which we provide instruction, our resolve remains unbroken to provide all students a fulfilling, uninterrupted educational experience.

Thank you for the warm welcome you’ve provided me, and for your patience and understanding during these critical times. Your support is important as we work together to ensure that all students have the opportunity to receive the best education possible.
