Instructional Services Division
Adult Education
Upland Adult School has been successfully preparing adults in the Upland Community since 1989. Over the years, we have prepared adult students, guiding them to the completion of their high school diplomas, improvements in English Literacy skills, and computer comprehension. Please read more about these services by going to our adult school section on our Schools Page.
AVID
One of the major areas of focus here at Upland is to increase the number of students who meet the requirements upon graduation to enter four-year colleges. Our Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program in six of our elementary schools, our junior high schools, and our high schools help prepare all students for college and other postsecondary education opportunities.
We embrace AVID’s research-based curriculum and strategies as our students develop critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas. For more information, visit our AVID page.
Common Core State Standards
The California State Board of Education adopted the common core state standards in 2010. Since that time, Upland Unified has implemented our state standards. These core standards establish consistent and clear educational goals for the entire state to help our students be better prepared for college and career. These standards focus on 21st century skills and content. You can learn more about common core state standards by visiting the California Department of Education website and our Common Core page.
English Language Learners
To achieve the district vision of Excellence and Equity for all Students, we must fully implement effective programs for English learners, and English learners need to attain proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing academic English while also mastering the state content standards.
