UUSD Board of Education Election Transition Process
The District is transitioning from an at-large to a by-trustee area method of electing Board members. Under the current “at-large” system, all registered voters in the District’s boundaries vote for all candidates for Board. Under the new system, candidates will be elected by “trustee areas.” This means only voters within a given trustee area can vote for candidates who reside within that same area. The intent of this proposed system is to offer greater opportunities for Board representation for candidates that might not otherwise be elected under an at-large system.
Two additional options were created based on comments and discussion at the first map public hearing. All six options remain under consideration
NOTE: The map options created during this process do not change or impact any school attendance areas. Rather, this process only impacts how school board elections are conducted.
