Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Academy at Baldy View Elementary

There is no research indicating two languages will confuse students or slow down their academic progress. There is, however, significant research indicating that students who learn two languages experience cognitive and linguistic advantages when compared to monolingual students. This has been demonstrated by their ability to perform better on tasks that require divergent thinking, pattern recognition, problem solving, and higher levels of metalinguistic awareness.

Research studies and established programs show the dual language immersion (DLI) program model to be the most effective way to become proficient in two languages. Results from more than 20 years of research indicate that students in DLI programs develop higher levels of dual language proficiency and academic achievement than in other program models.

The standards and curriculum in the DLI classes are the same as in the mainstream English classes. The only difference is the language of instruction. Teachers are specially certified and trained to teach in a classroom with second language learners to ensure and maximize learning in both languages.

UUSD’s DLI Academy is exclusive to Baldy View Elementary, meaning that if accepted, your child will be attending Baldy View. If you are a UUSD family and have a different school of residence, the district will automatically complete the transfer of schools on your behalf.

Notification letters will be sent by Baldy View Elementary School.

There are no special transportation accommodations for those accepted into DLI, however, regular district transportation guidelines apply.

This is a possibility provided that there are openings in the program. Please contact our Director of Equity and Access, Dr. Antonio Gonzalez (antonio_gonzalez@upland.k12.ca.us) for more information.

If you are a UUSD resident family, you must first complete your online enrollment (click here). Once you submit your online enrollment, you will then have to submit your DLI application (click here).

If you are NOT a current UUSD resident family, you must complete only the DLI application (click here). When notified of acceptance, you will then complete the inter-district transfer process. More information will follow at that time.
